Jayanagar is a pretty decent place when it comes to shopping. And also one of my favourites. The serene locality with trees, nice clean roads, decent crowd makes Jayanagar a cool place to go shopping.
Though it is slightly costlier than Shivajinagar, but the experience and crowd makes it a place worth visiting.
Jayanagar is also one of the places where you will get a lot of varieties if you want to buy GOLD Jewellery :)
Afterall GOLD is a women's best friend, after the prices have come down. You can find Bhima, Malabar Gold, Josco, Jos Alukkas, and many more in Jayanagar 3rd Block and 4th Block which are not very far from each other.
Coming back to shopping for clothes, one day me and my friend decided to go shopping in Jayanagar 5th Block. The best part was, in this scorching summer, we were lucky to get 4 showrooms adjacent to each other. Indeed a relief, as the weather was burning hot. It was one of the best shopping experience ever.
The advantage of course was, if you don't like something in one shop you can always walk out and go to the next shop..:)
Place: Jayanagar 5th Block
Direction: Its bang on the main road. If you know JP Nagar Bangalore Central and Big Bazaar, then its easy.
Keep going further ahead on the main road, and you will find Woodys and Croma showroom on your left....Keep going further.
On the left hand side you will see a big showroom, Vara Mahalakshmi, which was our first stop.
Its easily noticeable :)
Jute, to Silks and kancheevarams...you will get all the varieties at a single place. Its a 2 storeyed showroom with each floor divided by price range.
Ground Floor: Kancheevarams and Bridal Sarees
Kancheevarams or Bridal Sarees start from 5000 rupees and up.
First Floor: Handloom cottons and lower range sarees.
P.S: If you want to buy cloth in meters or cloth stacked in rolls, then this is the place. You get lots of variety in Kalamkari cotton cloth stacked in rolls. You can buy them and stitch them according to your size. Also found some Silk materials in roll. These are apt if you want to stitch blouses or kurtis.
Men: If you are looking for some traditional wear for poojas or functions or weddings then do try here. You do get stiched ready to wear Silk dhoties and matching silk kurtas.
If you take the stairs up, you will find information about different varieties of clothes.
Loved reading the history about Silk, Tussar Silk, Banaras Silk, Kancheevarams..on their walls....Check out for yourself :)
Ground floor: caters to silks and Kancheevarams
First floor: is for printed Silk sarees
Second Floor: for Dress Materials, Cotton sarees and Designer sarees.
My friend got 3 chiffon and Georgette sarees in the range of 350-400 rupees which she said was a good deal. Ofcourse it was for her mother :)
P.S: The sales person showed us a saree which was just 40 gm in weight, in printed Silk. I was impressed. How would it be to wear something so light...
..you would be flying...:P
And so our shopping ended finally after 6 hours. It was fun...!
I liked all that I shopped...
Hope you too will love the experience. Happy Shopping!!!

Kumaran Silk Showroom (Silk Sarees, Readymade Churidars, Kids wear, Mens wear)
Though they have some good varieties in sarees, the same cannot be said about dress materials. I felt they had limited collections in Dress materials. They had good varieties in Mysore Silk sarees. Try out the Silk sarees or daily wear chiffon, Georgette sarees. My friend got 3 chiffon and Georgette sarees in the range of 350-400 rupees which she said was a good deal.
